Authenticity50 Review: Seed-to-Stitch Bedding Made in the USA

A deep dive into Authenticity50: the founders, the state-by-state Seed-to-Stitch supply chain, its sheets, pillows, blankets and towels, and honest notes on price and fit.

Why Authenticity50 Is Worth a Closer Look

Plenty of bedding is sold with a flag on the box. Very little of it is made here from start to finish. Authenticity50 is one of the few brands that says its whole line is grown, spun, woven, finished and sewn in the USA, a claim it trademarks as Seed-to-Stitch. That is a strong statement in an industry that moved overseas decades ago, so this deep dive looks at who runs the company, where each step actually happens, which products stand out, and what you should know before spending this kind of money on sheets.

The Founders and How the Company Started

Authenticity50 was started by a married couple, Jimmy and Steph MacDonald. According to the company, the idea goes back to 2011. They had just married and were trying to furnish their home with American-made goods, and bedding was the item they could not find. In a podcast interview with Honest Ecommerce, Jimmy, whose background was in the hedge fund industry, described a stay at a bed and breakfast in Carmel where the sheets turned out to be made in the USA. The owner told them she had stockpiled them years earlier because they were no longer being produced.

The couple spent roughly a year or two putting together a domestic supply chain before launching on Kickstarter in September 2015. The campaign raised over $40,000, more than double its goal, and their first product was a set of sheets. The Los Angeles Business Journal covered the young company soon after, describing it as based in Redondo Beach and selling direct online rather than through department stores. That direct model is still how the brand sells today.

The line grew from there. Pillows, blankets and towels arrived in 2019, the Heritage American Sheets and the A50 Travel Pillow came later, and the company marked its tenth year in fall 2025 with the Northwest Wool Throw. The brand also says it has no outside investors or corporate board.

What Seed-to-Stitch Actually Means

The useful thing about Authenticity50 is that it names the states, not just the country. For its cotton sheets, the brand says the process starts with American-grown cotton, which is spun into yarn in North Carolina and woven in South Carolina. The fabric is finished in Tennessee, then cut and sewn by hand in New Jersey. The pillowcases, flat and fitted sheets and duvet cover all use the same fabric, and the fitted sheets add elastic the brand says is milled in Georgia.

The other products follow their own routes. The Essential Cotton Towels use Supima cotton loops and an American cotton base, woven in Georgia. The Heritage Blankets are woven in Maine. The Comfort Temp Duvet uses wool from California sheep, and the Northwest Wool Throw uses Oregon wool spun and woven at Pendleton Woolen Mills in Washington. For wool products, the brand uses the term Sheep-to-Stitch.

The brand also says most of its products travel less than 1,000 miles from start to finish. That is the company's own figure, and we could not check it independently, but the state-by-state detail it publishes is more than most bedding brands offer.

Sheets and Bedding

Heritage American Sheets

Heritage American Sheets

This is the flagship set. It is a percale weave made from 100% American-grown cotton, and the brand says it uses slightly thicker yarns to get some of the texture of linen with the softness of cotton. Percale generally sleeps cooler and crisper than sateen, so these make sense if you run warm at night.

A50 Fitted Sheets

A50 Fitted Sheets

If you only need to replace the fitted sheet, which is usually the first piece to wear out, this lets you buy it on its own. It uses the same fabric as the Heritage American Sheets, has elastic around the whole edge, and fits mattresses up to 14 inches deep. That depth matters: if you have a thick pillow-top mattress, measure before you order.

A50 Flat Sheets

A50 Flat Sheets

The flat sheet is the same percale fabric with a 4-inch hem. Selling it separately is handy for people who skip the flat sheet in summer or want a spare.

Envelope Closure Pillowcases

Envelope Closure Pillowcases

These pillowcases use an envelope closure, so the pillow stays tucked inside instead of sliding out the open end. They are made from the same fabric as the sheets and are the cheapest way to try the brand's cotton before committing to a full set.

A50 Duvet Cover

A50 Duvet Cover

The duvet cover is cut from the same cotton as the Heritage sheets and sewn by hand in New Jersey. The company says the buttons come from the same supplier used by the US Armed Forces, though it does not name that supplier.

Pillows

Authenticity50 Made in USA Cooling Foam Pillow

This adjustable pillow is the product most people find first, and it is the brand's best seller. A zippered side gusset lets you add or remove the CertiPUR-US certified foam fill until it matches the way you sleep. The knit cover fabric comes from the Carolinas and the pillow is sewn in California. If you have bought pillow after pillow that ended up too flat or too firm, adjustability is the real selling point here.

A50 Travel Pillow

Launched in December 2025, the travel pillow is a smaller version of the Custom Comfort Pillow with the same zippered, adjustable foam fill. The brand suggests it for trips, lumbar support at a desk, or as a pillow for younger kids. To wash the cover, take the fill out first.

Blankets, Duvets and Throws

Comfort Temp Duvet

Comfort Temp Duvet

This is a wool comforter rather than a down or polyester one. Wool is a natural insulator that handles moisture well, which is why the brand pitches it to couples where one person sleeps hot and the other cold. It uses a cotton ticking fabric and California wool. Authenticity50 recommends it for fall, winter and spring and suggests a blanket for summer. It is the most expensive item in the line.

Heritage Blankets

Heritage Blankets

A medium-weight herringbone blanket made from American-grown cotton and American-spun yarn, woven in Maine and hemmed by hand. The brand says it won Good Housekeeping Best Bedding Awards in 2022 and 2023. A cotton blanket like this works on its own in summer or layered under a duvet in winter.

Northwest Wool Throw

Northwest Wool Throw

This throw was released in October 2025 for the company's tenth anniversary. It uses Oregon wool spun and woven at Pendleton Woolen Mills in Washington, and it is finished there with a whipstitched edge. It weighs 3.5 pounds. The brand first described it as a limited edition, so if you want one, don't count on it staying in stock forever.

Bath

Essential Cotton Towels

Essential Cotton Towels

The towels are 800 GSM, which the brand says is about 25% heavier than most towels, and they are cut oversized. They are woven in Georgia using Supima cotton loops. They are sold individually or as a bath bundle of two bath towels, two hand towels and two washcloths. Heavy towels feel great, but they take longer to dry, so they may not be ideal in a humid bathroom without good airflow.

Honest Notes Before You Buy

The price is real. A queen sheet set from Authenticity50 costs well more than a big-box set. You are paying for domestic labor and a short, traceable supply chain, not for a dramatically different kind of sheet. If the lowest price is the goal, this is not the brand for you.

Who it is for. It suits people who want bedding that is made in the USA all the way through, not just sewn here from imported fabric, and who would rather buy fewer, better pieces. It also makes a strong wedding or housewarming gift.

What to check. Measure your mattress depth before ordering fitted sheets. Percale feels crisp rather than silky, which some people love and others don't. Wool products need gentler care than cotton.

A fair caveat. The supply chain details in this article come from Authenticity50 itself. The brand publishes more detail than most, and outlets such as the Los Angeles Business Journal have covered it, but we have not independently audited its mills.

The Bottom Line

Authenticity50 is one of the few bedding companies that can name the state behind each step of making a sheet, and that is the main reason to buy from it. Start with a pair of Envelope Closure Pillowcases or the Custom Comfort Pillow if you want to try the brand without spending much. If you like the fabric, the Heritage American Sheets are the obvious next step.
